BARRATT 'THE ANIMALS OF SECRET ISLAND' CARD SET No. 1

GEO Bassett and Co. Ltd produced this wonderful range of collectible cards for young children in 1975. The cards came in packets of what were in those days called 'Sweet Cigarettes' but are these days called 'Candy Sticks' due to Political Correctness gone mad. The images and flavour text evoked a sense of mysterious wonder about the place where these bizarre and humorous creatures lived. The range was so successful that a competition was held for children to design their own monsters to appear in Series Two - however the second set was a real mistake, relying on the original children's drawings rather than adapting them in the same style. At present I only have 13 examples of the 35-card-set to show but will add more whenever possible, hopefully completing the set before too long.
